It is a major construction project of the national “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” and a key construction project of the “11th Five-Year Plan” of Guangdong Province. The airport is about 20 kilometers away from the urban areas of Jieyang, Shantou, and Chaozhou. The service radius is about 30,000 square kilometers in eastern Guangdong, and it radiates parts of southern Fujian. After opening, it will become the third largest trunk airport in Guangdong Province after Guangzhou Baiyun and Shenzhen Baoan Airports.
